New Melton Hospital by 2029

24th March 2025

Works have begun on the future Melton Hospital which will be only a 2 minute drive (1.5km) from Balmoral Estate. This brand-new hospital will support the growing and diverse communities of Caroline Springs, Rockbank, Strathtulloh, Melton, Bacchus Marsh and Gisborne. It will ensure the people of Melbourne’s west get the care they need, close to home. With essential site preparations now in progress, the Victorian Government has committed more than $900 million to deliver this new Melton Hospital by 2029.

The new Melton Hospital will include:

  • a 24-hour emergency department
  • at least 274 beds
  • an intensive care unit
  • maternity and neonatal services
  • mental health services, radiology services and ambulatory care
  • a new education and training hub for doctors and nurses in Melbourne’s west.
  • will be the first all-electric hospital in Victoria

Once completed, Melton Hospital will have capacity to treat 130,000 patients each year and see almost 60,000 patients in the emergency department each year. Bringing 4,000 new jobs to the area!

Created as an inclusive and welcoming space, the hospital’s design prioritises healing, learning, and well-being. Inspired by the local landscape, it fosters a deep connection to nature and Country—reflecting the harmony and resilience of natural ecosystems.

Shaped by over 1,000 community contributions, the hospital will feature green spaces, artwork, clear wayfinding, abundant natural light, outdoor access, and a celebration of local Indigenous culture and storytelling.

The Exemplar Health consortium has been awarded the contract to deliver the new Melton Hospital, with critical site preparation works underway. Construction of your new Melton Hospital is on track for completion in 2029.
